SUMMER LADDERS

ADHOCRACY EXHIBITION- 1ST ISTANBUL DESIGN BIENNIAL (2012)

This project has to do with an annual practice of the inhabitants of the Epidaurus area, who install and dismantle metal ladders that provide them with access to the rocky coastline in summer. They design and construct them and during winter, the ladders are laid down on the ground and are covered with transparent, plastic surfaces. These volumes remind visitors of the improvised nature of this practice, the participation of local inhabitants in the formation of public space, and summer. Errands organized the transportation of one of these ladders to Istanbul during the Istanbul Design Biennial (2012) and presented it together with related postcards and a video screening with interviews of the local people.
