EMBROS THEATER – TWO ACTIONS
EMPROS OCCUPIED THEATRE AND PUBLIC PROPERTIES COMPANY S.A. (2011)
On November 11 and 13 2011, Errands have lighten up the occupied theatre of Embros in Athens. During these two evenings 16 outdoor projection lamps were installed on the ground and in a distance of about one meter from the walls of the theatre and also in neighboring apartments, lighting the two facades of the building. This temporal installation contributed to the reactivation of the abandoned theatre as the beams of lights focused on it, made it visible and illustrated it symbolic connection with the outdoor space, the neighboring buildings, the city and it s inhabitants.
During a one week residency at Embros theatre, the group researched all the material connected to the history and the nowadays situation and regime of the building. After a research at the Hellenic Public Real Estate Corporation, errands presented an archive with confidential public documents, older publications and other material revealing the history of the building and the its owners/tenants.
With these two actions Errands focused on illuminating the theatre, both in an actual and a symbolic way.
